Hello, World! Inspiring Food Blogs (and Other Sites)

You’ve found the back page.

Here is a list of sites that won’t fit on my front page, and a picture of some potted meat.

And Camilo Cienfuegos … because “beard” used to mean “revolutionary” before it meant “I’d like a Pabst.”

Don’t Eat Potted Meat

This listing, along with the one in the right-hand column, is a collection of my favorite sites. Several reasons why some of them appear on the back page:

  • there’s just not enough room on the front page
  • some of the sites on the back page are no longer current
  • the sites in on the front page tend to be those I frequent most often

I curate these sites in terms of “recipes I want to try,” “people I know first-hand to be cool,” and “writing I admire.” Sometimes – less often – I collect them because simply they have beautiful images, or an elegant web design; or they contain something I just don’t want to lose track of, or something Chicago-centric.

Among the sites, you’ll find that many – but certainly not all – of them are written by men. When I started Make It Like a Man, there were just a handful of man-generated food blogs, if you don’t count those that cater exclusively to barbecue, man-foods, or those that serve mainly as the social media arm for a celebrity chef or professional food writer. However, more and more, it’s becoming easier to find sites devoted to home cooking, written by rank-and-file men who cook for their families after coming home from working for the man every night and day. The role of domestic cook and food shopper is something that I adopted very early on, and it interests me to see the trend blossom … which leads me to an interest in those types of sites. If you know of any that you love, but that you don’t see listed on my site, please send their links my way. I’d love to keep the big wheel turning.

  1. Thank you so much for listing me in your top shelf section! I’m honored! I’m not a man that cooks obviously but, I love men that cook well or at all I should say. Lol! My man loves my home cooking so he stays out of the kitchen. Nonetheless, I have three men to cook for so, I know a lot about meat and potatoes!

Please let me know what you like about my blog so I can keep doing it!

Thanks again and I hope we can connect. I’d like to link back to this page if you don’t mind.

    • You’re welcome! Your blog has a clean design, and nice photography … but mainly, most of the dishes you post look like something I want to eat! Feel free to link back; I’d love to connect.
