Bacon Reviews, listed best to worst:

Roundy’s Regular-Cut Bacon
  • In word: It says “gluten free” on the package, which seems funny for multiple reasons … but it turns out that bacon may come in contact with gluten during processing. Still, it’s a little bit funny.

  • Weaveable? Yes.
Wright Applewood
  • In word: Delicious. This is a thick-cut bacon. It’s very tasty and has a nice balance of fat to lean.

  • Weaveable? I don’t use thick-sliced in my weaves, but others do. It surely looks like it’d be a good candidate, and it tastes great.
Dutch Farms Thick Cut Premium Sliced Bacon
  • In word: Sure.
  • Weaveable? Yes
Patrick Cudahy Regular Sliced Original
  • In word: ordinary. That does not mean bad. If you really love bacon, maybe this isn’t your bacon. But if you need bacon in a supporting role, this would be an acceptable choice.

  • Weaveable? Yes
365 Whole Foods Applewood Smoked Uncured Pork Bacon
  • In word: No! It tastes like a faded, pastel memory of bacon – a memory that you can’t quite hold on to, and most of the details have been lost forever.

  • Weaveable? Yes

    • Your secret’s safe with me. (Although Cindy is literate, right? And has a computer…) Cheers, Trey!

  1. I popped some corn in bacon fat a couple days ago. I smelled like bacon when it was popping. It didn’t taste like bacon. It just tasted like great popcorn. Although, when I got to the bottom of the bowl (which is where the first kernels to pop were), I did get a faint taste of bacon. Thumbs up.

    • I’m sure you meant “it” smelled like bacon, although if you smelled like bacon … bonus!
